Georgia recognized Lithuania de jure on 27 August 1991.
Diplomatic relations were established on 16 September 1994.
From 2000 to 2001, Vytautas Plečkaitis served as the first Ambassador of Lithuania to Georgia (resided in Ukraine).
From 2004 to 2008, David Aptsiauri served as the first Ambassador of Georgia to Lithuania.
