On 29 October, Ernestas Mickus, Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to the United Arab Emirates, presented his credentials to Dr Francesco La Camera, Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), becoming Lithuania’s second Permanent Representative to the organisation.
During his meeting with the IRENA Director-General, the Ambassador outlined Lithuania’s strategic energy policy objectives: achieving climate neutrality by 2050 while steadily strengthening energy security. Discussions focused on expanding renewable energy, advancing energy innovation and Lithuania’s readiness to contribute actively to IRENA’s work.
They also explored prospects for closer cooperation between Lithuania and IRENA, particularly in the context of Lithuania’s forthcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2027.
IRENA was established in 2009 and is headquartered in Abu Dhabi. Lithuania joined the organisation on 29 June 2009 and is one of its founding members. IRENA supports countries in developing renewable energy policies, improving regulatory frameworks and building capacity to deploy clean energy technologies. It also provides expert advice, conducts research and facilitates the exchange of best practices.
