Ambassador Paulauskas presents his letters of credence to the Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community
On 14 March in Georgetown, the capital city of Guyana, the Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the United Nations, Ambassador of Lithuania Rytis Paulauskas presented his letters of credence to the Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Carla Barnett.
"Having actively participated in the regional structures of the Nordic and Baltic countries for more than 30 years, Lithuania is well aware of the fruits of regional cooperation and the importance of CARICOM in creating the region's well-being and responding to global challenges such as climate change, food security, pandemics and digitalisation," Paulauskas noted when presenting his letters of credence.
Following the ceremony, Paulauskas met with Barnett, Assistant Secretary-General, Foreign and Community Relations, Ambassador Donna Forde and Assistant Secretary-General for Human and Social Development Alison Drayton and discussed the strengthening of cooperation between Lithuania and the Caribbean Community in response to global challenges related to climate change, recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and the negative consequences of Russia's war against Ukraine.
Ambassador Paulauskas is the third Ambassador of Lithuania accredited to the Caribbean Community.
The Caribbean Community and Common Market (CARICOM) was established in 1973 by the Caribbean integration movement with the primary objectives of promoting economic integration and cooperation among its members, ensuring that integration benefits are equitably shared, and coordinating foreign policy. It comprises twenty countries: fifteen member states and five associate members.
