At the Foreign Ministers’ meeting of the EU and African countries, the Lithuanian Foreign Minister stresses the importance of ensuring the territorial integrity of the countries
At the meeting of heads of diplomacy of the EU member states and African countries on 1 April in Brussels, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius drew the attention of the African partners to the challenges facing Europe due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and stressed that the infringements of the basic principles of international law, such as violations of sovereignty and territorial integrity of the countries, should not be tolerated.
The Lithuanian Foreign Minister called on the African countries to take into account the UN General Assembly’s resolution of 27 March 2014 titled “Territorial integrity of Ukraine” and asked not to recognize the annexation of Crimea.
L.Linkevičius stressed Lithuania’s growing engagement in the settlement of global peace and security issues and drew attention to the participation of the country’s troops in the EU operations in Africa and in the activities of the UN Security Council.
In the capital city of Belgium, the head of the Lithuanian diplomacy also met with his Ethiopian counterpart Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. The Ministers discussed possibilities of strengthening bilateral political and economic relations and exchanged views on important international policy issues in Europe and Africa.
The EU and African Foreign Ministers’ meeting took place on eve of the 4th EU-Africa Summit on 2-3 April in Brussels.
