At the meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan, Budrys raised the issue of the name registration of the Tian Shan peaks, which were first summited by Lithuanian mountaineers

On 17 April, Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys met with Ayaz Baetov, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice of Kyrgyzstan, on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.

The meeting focused on bilateral relations between Lithuania and Kyrgyzstan, prospects for cooperation with the European Union, and current issues in international politics.

The head of Lithuania's diplomacy emphasized that Lithuania consistently supports dialogue between the EU and Central Asian countries, the importance of which was confirmed by the first  European Union–Central Asia summit held last year.

A key topic of the bilateral discussion was the official registration of Lithuanian names for the Tian Shan mountain peaks, which were first summited by Lithuanian climbers.

“Lithuanian mountaineers were the first to ascend the peaks of the Lithuanian-Kyrgyz Friendship and five others in Kyrgyzstan. Their official recognition would be an important step in strengthening bilateral relations between Lithuania and Kyrgyzstan and would become yet another bond connecting our countries and peoples,” said Budrys.

Since 2011, the Lithuanian Mountaineering Association has pushed for the official registration of six unnamed Tian Shan peaks in Kyrgyzstan, first summited by Lithuanian climbers, including "Akstinas” (1959), "Žalgiris” (1969), “Millennium of the Name  of Lithuania” (2009), “Vidugiris” (2017), “Lithuania-Kyrgyz Friendship” (2018), and “Aryk Myrza” (2018).

The meeting also addressed the possibility of holding bilateral political consultations between Lithuania and Kyrgyzstan.

The Lithuanian side emphasized the need for political and diplomatic support for Ukraine, pressure on Russia to cease its aggression, and cooperation in combating the circumvention of EU sanctions.
