Budrys on a working visit to Washington
On 3 February, Minister of Foreign Affairs Kęstutis Budrys departed for a working visit to the United States of America. In Washington, D.C., the Minister will participate in an international meeting of ministers on the topic of critical minerals, meet with senior U.S. administration officials, members of both chambers of Congress, as well as representatives of non-governmental organizations and think tanks.
The meetings in Washington will focus on key issues of transatlantic cooperation, strengthening the strategic partnership between the U.S. and Lithuania, regional security challenges, the presence of U.S. troops in Lithuania, and support for Ukraine.
The Lithuanian Foreign Minister will discuss with U.S. administration representatives and members of Congress the security situation in the Baltic region and on NATO's eastern flank, airspace violations, and hybrid attacks carried out using balloons.
At the ministerial meeting on critical minerals the main focus will be on strengthening international cooperation to ensure secure, resilient, and diversified critical mineral supply chains. The meeting will discuss measures to reduce strategic dependencies on authoritarian regimes, increase the transparency and resilience of supply chains, and support the development of advanced technologies, energy transformation, and the defense industry.
The high‑level meeting, which will be attended by official delegations from 55 countries, is organized at the initiative of the U.S. State Department.
