Budrys spoke by phone with the Foreign Minister of Ukraine

On 23 January, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Kęstutis Budrys, had a telephone conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andrii Sybiha‎. The Lithuanian and Ukrainian top diplomats discussed the situation in Ukraine's energy sector following Russian attacks, the progress of peace negotiations, and prospects for Ukraine's EU integration.

According to Minister Budrys, Russia's systematic destruction of civilian energy infrastructure is classified as a war crime under the Geneva Convention.

“These actions require Russia’s accountability. At the European level, Lithuania will seek concrete ways to strengthen accountability and consequences for those who order and execute this terror. We will also urge the International Criminal Court to consider issuing new international arrest warrants for those responsible," said Budrys.

During the conversation, Minister Budrys informed that the Lithuanian government had taken the decision to deliver a batch of power generators to Ukraine, with a value exceeding 2.4 million euros.

The Lithuanian and Ukrainian top diplomats discussed the progress of peace talks. Budrys emphasized Lithuania's consistent and strong support for Ukraine's fight against Russian aggression, as well as its commitment to peace talks. Foreign Minister of Lithuania said that in talks with partners, Lithuania constantly emphasizes military support, security guarantees, and energy assistance to Ukraine.

Budrys and Sybiha discussed Ukraine's EU membership perspective. In the context of peace talks, Minister Budrys stressed the need to pursue a clear and binding plan for Ukraine’s European integration, which would serve as a real security guarantee for Ukraine.
