Foreign Minister congratulates Chair of Lithuanian Jewish Community on receiving YIVO Community Service Award
On 19 December, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius sent a letter, congratulating Faina Kukliansky, Chair of the Lithuanian Jewish Community, on receiving YIVO Community Service Award.
On 15 December, YIVO hosted an annual benefit dinner in honour of F.Kukliansky and others persons who had contributed to YIVO projects. The collected funds will sponsor a seven-year YIVO Vilna Project to reunite YIVO’s pre-war archives located in New York City and Lithuania, through a dedicated web portal.
In his letter of congratulations sent to F.Kukliansky, L.Linkevičius highlights her long-term activities to rally the Lithuanian Jewish Community, strengthen ties between Lithuanians and Jews, foster the Jewish cultural heritage and develop ties between the Jewish communities of Lithuania, Israel and the world.
YIVO’s archive is the world’s most comprehensive resource on Middle and Eastern European Jewish civilization. It was preserved by Jews, Lithuanians, Americans and others during, and after World War II.
