Foreign Minister discussed the support to Ukraine on his visit in Kyiv
Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius in the meetings in Kyiv on 22 August with President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and Foreign Affairs Minister Pavlo Klimkin discussed the support to Ukraine and coordination of diplomatic efforts in the run-up to the summit meetings of the European Union, NATO and the United Nations.
L. Linkevičius underlined that Lithuania consistently supports Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and is ready to assist Ukraine to absorb international assistance, as well as on the eurointegration path.
The President and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine assured that the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement would be ratified in September.
The meetings were held under especially tense circumstances when so called Russia’s humanitarian convoy entered the territory of Ukraine without the permission.
The Minister condemned such act of agression, which provokes further tension. These actions shall be discussed at the United Nations Security Council.
The President of Ukraine stated that Lithuania had always been in the hearts of the Ukrainian people. He noted that people of Ukraine warmly welcomed the greetings of the President of the Republic of Lithuania on the occasion of the Day of Independence recorded in the Ukrainian language.
