Foreign Vice-Minister Verbickas meets newly appointed Jordanian Ambassador to Lithuania

On 28 October, Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Vidmantas Verbickas received the newly appointed Ambassador of Jordan to Lithuania, Khalid Nayef Al-Kadi, who is resident in The Hague. During the meeting, they discussed bilateral relations between Lithuania and Jordan, strengthening economic ties, and the situation in the Middle East and Ukraine.

The meeting began with a discussion of the successful first visit to Lithuania in May by Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi and his meeting with Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Kęstutis Budrys.

The strengthening of bilateral economic ties was also discussed. Both sides expressed an interest in expanding the partnership, particularly in the areas of financial technology, digitalisation and tourism. With a view to further developing political dialogue, Lithuania expressed its readiness to host the first bilateral political consultations between Lithuania and Jordan in Vilnius in 2027.

Foreign Vice-Minister Verbickas stressed the need to continue cooperating in pursuit of lasting peace and stability in the Middle East and Ukraine. He emphasised that Lithuania and Jordan are united by their respect for international law, the principles of the Charter of the United Nations and the rules-based international order. He also expressed Lithuania’s solidarity with Jordan following the terrorist attack in the country on 23 October.

Lithuania and Jordan established diplomatic relations on 5 July 1994.
