Fourth Vice-Minister appointed at the Foreign Ministry

The fourth Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Mantvydas Bekešius undertook his duties at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania on 27 August.

M.Bekešius will be responsible for the relations with the Seimas (Parliament), coordinate matters of Lithuanians living abroad, relations with Jewish communities in different parts of the world, issues related to the Holocaust and Jewish cultural heritage, state border and migration, as well as activities of Lithuania’s honorary consuls.

The position also includes organising and supervising the implementation of orders issued by the Prime Minister, the Government and the Foreign Minister, organising and monitoring legislation, and coordination between the different institutions, overseeing compliance of draft legislation with provisions of the Government’s programme and legislative requirements.

Prior to joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania in 2004, where he served until 2013, M.Bekešius worked at the Ministry of National Defence of Lithuania. From 2007 to 2009 and from 2011 to 2012 he served as a senior officer at the Special Mission of Lithuania to Afghanistan. In 2013-2014 he headed the Secretariat of the Speaker of the Seimas of Lithuania.
