On 9 March, Lithuania’s Ambassador to Romania, Artūras Žurauskas, officially inaugurated the Honorary Consulate of Lithuania in Constanța, the country’s main port city. Businessman Aadrian Istrate-Scrădeanu will head the consulate. The event also marked the commemoration of Lithuania’s Restoration of Independence Day — March 11.
“The opening of the Honorary Consulate in Constanța reflects our countries’ shared commitment to deeper cooperation — from trade and tourism to education and culture. This consulate will serve as a bridge connecting the Lithuanian spirit of innovation with the Romanian openness of the Black Sea region. Under the leadership of our new Honorary Consul, Adrian Istrate-Scrădeanu, I am confident that we will build stronger bridges in trade, logistics, and cultural exchange between the Baltic and Black Sea regions,” said Ambassador Žurauskas.
The appointed Honorary Consul, Aadrian Istrate-Scrădeanu, is the founder and CEO of the transport and logistics company Silk Group. During the opening ceremony, he expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him. He affirmed his commitment to promoting cooperation between the two countries, enhancing Lithuania’s visibility in Romania, and fostering business ties.
Constanța Mayor Vergil Chițac also delivered a congratulatory message.
Representatives of Romanian institutions, business circles, non-governmental organisations, and local communities attended the event.
The consular district of the newly established Honorary Consulate of Lithuania in Constanța covers the counties of Ialomița, Călărași, Brăila, Tulcea, and Constanța. At present, three Lithuanian Honorary Consulates are operating in Romania.
