In Japan, Lithuanian Foreign Minister L.Linkevičius pays tribute to victims of Great East Japan Earthquake
During his working visit to Japan on 11 March, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius took part in a memorial service to commemorate the 3rd anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake. Nearly 20,000 people died or went missing in this disaster. 300,000 more people still cannot return to their homes. The memorial service was attended by the country’s Emperor, the Prime Minister, Ministers and Members of Parliament.
The Minister L.Linkevičius met with Member of Japan’s Parliament, the Chair of the Lithuania-Japan Parliamentary Group for Friendship Hirofumi Nakasone, discussed with him prospects for bilateral cooperation, and its further development.
During the press conference at the Japan National Press Club, L.Linkevičius received a lot of questions about the situation in Ukraine. On the occasion of 11 March, the Minister reminded of the history of Lithuania’s independence, discussed Lithuania’s Presidency of the EU Council, work on the United Nations Security Council and dynamics of bilateral relations between Japan and Lithuania, in particular the country’s plans related to energy, including its cooperation with Hitachi.
L.Linkevičius welcomed participants of the 6th Japan-Baltic seminar on energy security issues in the Baltic States and in Japan.
The Lithuanian Foreign Minister also met with members of the Japan-Lithuania Friendship Association and the Japan-Lithuania Exchange Centre, thanked them for their sincere efforts to strengthen relations between the countries and discussed guidelines for further cooperation in areas such as trade, culture, science, etc.
