In Tokyo, L.Linkevičius discusses situation in Ukraine with Japan’s Foreign Minister, opens Lithuanian Chambers of Commerce

On 13 March in Tokyo, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with Japan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Fumio Kishida and other government officials, and opened the Lithuanian Chambers of Commerce in Japan as well as an exhibition of Lithuanian production at the Embassy of Lithuania.  

At the meeting, L.Linkevičius and Japan’s Foreign Minister agreed that the international community needed to send a clear signal that the aggressive policy of the Russian Federation towards Ukraine could not be tolerated.

During the meeting, F.Kishida emphasized Lithuania’s increased prestige on the international arena due to the country’s successful Presidency of the EU Council and non-permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council. The Japanese Foreign Minister also expressed a wish to cooperate more actively on the issues that comprise the United Nations agenda. L.Linkevičius invited his Japanese counterpart to pay a visit to Lithuania and to extend constructive dialogue.

The head of the Lithuanian diplomacy also met with Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Toshimitsu Motegi, the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Hakubun Shimomura, the Senior Vice-Minister of the Cabinet Office Yasutoshi Nishimura.

The Japanese side confirmed its Government’s support for the Visaginas nuclear power plant project and offered to help train nuclear technicians. The Japanese officials expressed a wish to cooperate in the field of life sciences and high technology, and to take part in the conference “Life Sciences Baltics 2014” this September in Lithuania.

On the same day, L.Linkevičius opened the Lithuanian Chambers of Commerce in Japan and an exhibition of Lithuanian production at the Embassy of Lithuania.
