L.Linkevičius awarded state decoration of the Republic of Moldova
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius was awarded a high state decoration - the Order of Honour - for his personal contribution to the support of Moldova’s European integration. The Award was presented by the President of Moldova Nicolae Timofti on 1 September in Chisinau.
Upon receiving the award, L.Linkevičius stressed that Lithuania’s consistent and unwavering support for Moldova’s European choice stemmed from Lithuania’s eurointegration experience.
“Lithuania will continue supporting Moldova on its eurointegration way, where a strong determination of the Government and its people is necessary, even despite difficulties or external pressures,” said L.Linkevičius
On his working visit in Chisinau, Minister took part in the meeting of “Friends of Moldova Group”, during which Foreign Ministers of EU member states and other high-ranking officials discussed Moldova’s European integration agenda with Moldovan authorities. Participants also discussed ways and possibilities how to help Moldova to overcome economic difficulties arising from politicised economic sanctions imposed by the Russian Federation soon after the signature of the EU-Moldova Association Agreement.
L.Linkevičius also met with Mr. Igor Corman, Chairman of the Moldovan Parliament and Ms. Natalia Gherman, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration. Lithuanian Minister is to hold meetings with Moldova’s Prime Minister Iurie Leanca and representatives of the opposition. The Lithuanian and Moldovan Foreign Ministers will co-chair the meeting of the Lithuania-Moldova Commission for European Integration.
