Lithuania allocates humanitarian aid to people affected by floods in Pakistan
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania allocated EUR 30,000 in humanitarian assistance to Pakistanis. The funds will be transferred to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).
The floods caused by monsoon rains killed more than 1,400 people in Pakistan in 2022. According to the Pakistani Government, rains, floods and landslides have affected more than 33 million people, damaged 7 million houses, flushed away half of the country’s cotton crop and destroyed all its wheat planting. Flood losses are now estimated at $30 billion or 9 percent of GDP.
Around 6.4 million people in Pakistan are currently in need of humanitarian aid. Their key needs include shelter, safe water, food, adequate sanitation, security, and livelihoods recovery.
Lithuania has allocated humanitarian aid in response to the IFRC's urgent appeal for international humanitarian aid to Pakistan.
