Lithuania co-signs PSI Joint Statement on the implementation of UN Security Council sanctions on Iran

Lithuania, consistently supporting international efforts to strengthen the nuclear non-proliferation regime, has co-signed the Joint Statement released by the Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI)-endorsing States marking the anniversary of the snapback of UN restrictions on and related to Iran.

On September 27, 2025, six UN Security Council resolutions returned into force pursuant to the completion of the snapback process, which was initiated by France, Germany and the United Kingdom in response to Tehran’s persistent and significant non-performance of its nuclear commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

The PSI Joint Statement reaffirms the commitment to continue implementing all relevant obligations set out in the reinstated UN Security Council resolutions, to prevent the sale, supply and transfer to and from Iran of items that could contribute to weapons of mass destruction, their means of delivery and related materials, and calls on Iran to return to compliance with its nonproliferation obligations and to cooperate fully with the IAEA.

The full text of the PSI Joint Statement is available on the website of the U.S. Department of State.
