Lithuania expresses support to Ukraine at the Meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission
At the Meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission on 25 June in Brussels, the foreign ministers discussed recent developments in parts of eastern Ukraine and NATO’s further support to resolve Ukraine’s largest security crisis ever since gaining independence.
“We cannot leave Ukraine alone in these difficult days. It is very important for both NATO and the Alliance’s member countries to continue rendering necessary assistance to Ukraine on a bilateral basis in its fight for the country’s territorial integrity and the right to self-determination,” the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius said.
NATO ministers congratulated their Ukrainian counterpart Pavlo Klimkin on successful presidential election in the country and welcomed the peace plan put forward by the President of Ukraine.
The NATO-Ukraine Commission agreed to continue to cooperate actively under the framework of such meetings, as well as to make better use of the informal Group of Friends of Ukraine in NATO, which was recently established at Lithuania’s initiative.
In Brussels, L.Linkevičius and P.Klimkin also held a bilateral meeting, during which the ministers agreed to maintain close dialogue between the two countries on topical issues.
