Lithuania participates in the Pacific Islands Forum for the first time

Ambassador of Lithuania to Japan Aurelijus Zykas, who is accredited to the Federated States of Micronesia and Palau, participated in the 55th Pacific Islands Forum, held in Palau from 30 August to 4 September. This marks the first time Lithuania has been represented at the Forum.
On the sidelines of the Forum, Ambassador Zykas met with representatives of delegations from Micronesia, Palau, the Marshall Islands, Taiwan, New Zealand, and other partners, as well as representatives of various foundations. He also participated in a meeting of EU member state representatives, where he presented Lithuania's activities in the Pacific Islands region and outlined projects for the region that will be implemented during Lithuania's Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The meetings focused extensively on development cooperation and opportunities for Lithuanian businesses in the field of digital transformation. Particular attention was given to cooperation with Palau. Ambassador Zykas also expressed Lithuania's gratitude to Taiwan for its strong support for Ukraine's recovery and reconstruction efforts.
The Pacific Islands Forum brings together 18 countries and territories of the region. Lithuania's participation provides an opportunity to expand its engagement in the Pacific, strengthen partnerships with like-minded countries on issues related to international law, territorial integrity, and security, and build support for Ukraine. Through its participation, Lithuania also contributes to enhancing the European Union's visibility in the region and supports initiatives in the fields of development cooperation and environmental protection.
