Lithuanian Ambassador presents her letters of credence to President of Myanmar

On 17 November in Naypyidaw, the capital city of Myanmar, the Ambassador of Lithuania Ina Marčiulionytė presented her letters of credence to the President of Myanmar U Htin Kyaw. After the official ceremony, the President stressed that Myanmar was aware of Lithuania, as the Baltic Tiger, and believed that there was a lot of potential for cooperation in the fields of politics, economy, development cooperation and other areas.

Myanmar is obviously very interested in Lithuania’s experience in the fields of electronic services, high technology, life sciences, renewable energy, and food safety. The President said that his country also took a great care to give its citizens opportunities for a good quality education, so they would be interested in the opportunity to study at Lithuanian higher educational institutions. Finally, the interlocutors agreed that in order to speed up bilateral cooperation, it was necessary to initiate the signing of bilateral agreements and the exchange of the highest-level visits.

Marčiulionytė, who resides in Beijing, is the first Ambassador accredited to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. Lithuania and Myanmar established diplomatic relations in 2013.
