Lithuanian Foreign Minister condemns North Korea’s provocative actions

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius strongly condemns North Korea’s launch of two ballistic missiles on 26 March.

“Such actions constitute a threat to peace and stability not only in South-East Asia Region, but also to global security. Lithuania strongly condemns this blatant provocation and calls on North Korea to comply strictly with all the provisions and obligations laid down in the UN Security Council’s resolutions,” L.Linkevičius noted.

The Lithuanian Foreign Minister also expressed hope that the UN Security Council would unanimously condemn North Korea’s “absolutely unacceptable” behaviour and invited all interested parties to apply political wisdom to seek a peaceful diplomatic solution to the situation.

The two medium-range missiles were fired by the country in an easterly direction and landed in the Sea of Japan.

The UN Security Council’s resolutions commit North Korea to completely and permanently halt its ballistic missile programme, stressing that weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missile programmes pose a serious threat to international peace and security.
