Lithuanian Foreign Minister holds a meeting with his Latvian counterpart, stresses the importance of creating a common information space
At a meeting with Foreign Minister of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs on 11 January in Trakai, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius discussed the importance of creating a common Lithuanian and Latvian space of information, culture, and education.
During the conversation about bilateral relations, Linkevičius said that Lithuania was determined to follow the plan concerning the implementation of the recommendations of the Report on Latvian – Lithuania Co-operation Perspectives, including an objective to create a common Lithuanian and Latvian space of information, culture and education, and to promote contacts and exchanges between the young people of the two countries.
Latvia has prepared a plan for the implementation of the recommendations of the Report on Latvian – Lithuania Co-operation Perspectives, which was co-authored drafted by Lithuanian and Latvian diplomats. The plan includes an offer to organise joint events for the celebration of the Baltic Unity Day. Last year, the celebration took place in Bauska, and this year it will be organised in Šiauliai.
The meeting also discussed the Eastern neighbourhood and other issues of international policy that are important for both countries.
The two Ministers had the conversation in the margins of the traditional informal Snow Meeting in Trakai. The event is attended by officials from Lithuania and foreign countries, experts on foreign and security policy from analytical research centres.
