Lithuanian Foreign Minister met with United States Senators, stressed the importance of strong transatlantic ties

On 26 May in Vilnius, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius met with a delegation of the United States Senators and thanked them for a quick response by the United States to events in the region - the reinforcement of NATO’s air policing mission in the Baltic States and the deployment of land force troops (150 members) in Rukla.

“By taking such steps our allies have shown that the U.S. clearly supports Europe, which is very important to our common security,” the Lithuanian Foreign Minister said.

The U.S. Senators Jim Inhofe, Jeff Sessions, Deb Fischer, Tim Scott and John Barrasso have arrived in Lithuania.

The U.S. representatives called on Lithuania to respect its military commitment by allocating 2 per cent of its GDP.

This is already the second visit of the United States Senators to Lithuania this year. The U.S. Senators John Mccain, John Barrasso and Ron Johnson visited Lithuania in April.
