Lithuanian garden blossoms in the capital of Japan

Residents of the capital of Japan and foreign tourists for the first time will have the opportunity to visit a traditional Lithuanian farmstead and garden, erected at the initiative of the Embassy of Lithuania in Tokyo.

A traditional Lithuanian wooden log house was built at the famous Hotel Okura Tokyo. It is surrounded by a garden of ornamental and medicinal plants, which are cultivated in Lithuania.

The guests will have the opportunity to sample for themselves the Lithuanian national dishes and drinks. A workshop will also be held alongside the exhibition in which the folk artist Jurgita Treinytė will teach how to make traditional Lithuanian straw gardens.

It is the first time that Lithuania takes part in the already 17th Annual World Gardening Fair that kicked off on 2 May. Spouses of Ambassadors from ten countries are attending this event to create their gardens that represent each country’s culture and traditions.

The opening of the event was also attended by the Japanese Princess Takamado, who enjoyed the colourful Lithuanian garden and took interest in Lithuanian customs and traditions.

The event has attracted a lot of media attention, so it is planned that the Gardening Fair will be visited by more than 12, 000 visitors during this week.
