LITHUANIAN MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND EU TRADE COMMISSIONER DISCUSSED DEVELOPMENT OF THE EUROPEAN UNION’S TRADE RELATIONS WITH THIRD COUNTRIES

On 16 March in Brussels Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Petras Vaitiekūnas and European Commissioner for Trade Peter Mandelson discussed the issues of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the Russian Federation joining the World Trade Organisation.

The participants of the meeting exchanged opinions on the harmonization of railway tariffs in Russia which is important to Lithuania, the development of the European Union’s trade relations with third countries, like Moldova, Georgia and Belarus, current review of the trade defence instruments.

On 15-16 March in Brussels Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs and the heads of Lithuanian diplomatic representations in the Commonwealth of Independent States with EU and NATO officials were discussing the EU and NATO priorities and sharing experience on the EU and NATO activities in the CIS, as well as the issues of energy, visa policy and the reforms of defence and economic systems of CIS States.
