Lithuania’s Ambassador presents his letters of credence to the King of the Netherlands

On 6 September, the Ambassador of Lithuania to the Netherlands Vidmantas Purlys presented his letters of credence to the King of the Netherlands Willem-Alexander.

The officials discussed issues related to bilateral relations, security, European politics, etc.

The Ambassador Purlys noted that the Netherlands was a trusted ally of NATO, which substantially contributed to enhancing the Alliance’s security on its Eastern frontier. “We are grateful to the Netherlands for its solidarity,” said Purlys.

The Ambassador also said that Lithuania and the Netherlands were cooperating closely to address items on the European Union’s agenda and similarly assessed key challenges, such as the EU’s security, competitiveness and others.

As regards bilateral relations, the interlocutors noted that the Netherlands was one of the main economic partners of Lithuania. The country is the second largest investor in Lithuania and its important trading partner. According to Purlys, the dialogue with the Netherlands in the field of energy, in the implementation of projects to enhance Lithuania’s energy security, particularly in the introduction of advanced liquefied natural gas technologies, is important for Lithuania.
