Lithuania’s Foreign Minister and EU ambassadors in Lithuania discussed EU agenda and regional security

On 29 September in Vilnius, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with ambassadors of EU member states, discussed key issues relating to the EU, regional security and international policy.

Minister Linkevičius and the EU ambassadors discussed the EU’s key political objectives. L.Linkevičius underlined that it was important to focus on EU’s energy policy, to complete the EU’s internal market, to strengthen the EU cohesion policy, to stimulate economic growth and employment, as well as to negotiating a free trade agreement with the United States of America.

Lithuania’s Foreign Minister also stressed the importance of the Eastern Partnership programme. When speaking about the situation in Ukraine, L.Linkevičius noted that the EU had to resolutely assist Ukraine in ensuring its territorial integrity, addressing the difficult humanitarian situation and implementing all the necessary reforms for Ukraine’s closer intergration with the EU.

The meeting was held at the initiative of the Embassy of Italy in Lithuania. This is a traditional event of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
