Lithuania's Foreign Minister Landsbergis at a meeting with German industrialists: Investments in Lithuania, trade volumes, and intensifying ties show that the German business community trusts in Lithuania
On 10 November, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis met with members of the Executive Board of the Federation of German Industries (BDI) during his working visit to Berlin.
"According to the latest statistical data, Lithuanian export to Germany are growing, and Germany remains the No 1 investor in Lithuania. We value the trust of the German business community a lot, as well as ever-strengthening economic ties between our countries," minister Landsbergis said during the meeting with the representatives of BDI.
The meeting focused on the risks of economic and energy dependence on authoritarian regimes, cooperation in defence industry and other fields, as well as possibilities for economic diversification.
"Despite the geopolitical turmoil and Russia's war against Ukraine, there is a special momentum - current challenges give a unique chance for all of us - governments and businesses - to recharge. There are lots of chances for diversification inside Europe and, hopefully, businesses will explore this European path more," said Wolfgang Niedermark, member of the BDI Executive Board.
Niedermark also noted that Lithuania is a reliable partner, which offered security for investments in addition to a skilled workforce and modern governance.
During the discussion on energy independence, the minister emphasized the importance of Lithuanian decisions taken more than a decade ago: "The fact that oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals operator KN (Klaipėdos Nafta AB) was selected by German energy company Uniper to provide the operational services of the floating LNG terminal under construction in Wilhelmshaven on the North Sea coast, is yet another proof that the decision taken by Lithuanian authorities more than a decade ago were just and far-sighted."
