Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Landsbergis: "NATO’s Article 5 is the only security guarantee"
Today, on 1 June, in Oslo, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis is attending an informal meeting of NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs.
“For 14 years, Ukraine has waited for an answer from NATO. It has endured two invasions by that time. I think it is high time we sat down and found a concrete answer as to how Ukraine will move closer to NATO and become a member of the Alliance,” the head of Lithuania’s diplomacy said ahead of the meeting.
“The situation on NATO’s eastern flank is not getting any better. Belarus’s becoming a Russian accomplice in this war is another worrying factor.”
“There is a very high expectation that the Swedish flag will be raised in Vilnius. That is one of the parameters for the success of the NATO summit. NATO’s Article 5 is the only security guarantee,” Landsbergis commented on the situation.
