Lithuania’s Foreign Minister meets with Nobel Prize winner of Lithuanian descent Robert Shiller

On 15 September in Vilnius, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the 2013 Nobel Prize winner in economic sciences of Lithuanian descent, Professor Robert Shiller from Yale University in the U.S. Lithuania’s Foreign Minister welcomed the opportunity to meet with the Professor once again in Lithuania, the country with which his links seem to have intensified, bearing in mind a rich visit agenda.

Linkevičius thanked the famous economist for participating in the Conference “Europe Whole, Free and at Peace – 2040” that was organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania and for sharing his interesting insights in the debate entitled “Outlines of Global Governance and Order”.

Shiller gave the Lithuanian Foreign Minister a translated version of the book “Phishing for Phools: The Economics of Manipulation and Deception” in the Lithuanian language as a gift. Shiller has co-authored the book with George Akerlof. The economist will present the book to the Lithuanian academic community at the ISM University of Management and Economics on 16 September.

Shiller is visiting Vilnius on 14-18 September. He will also deliver a lecture for the students of Vilnius University, meet with the university’s leadership, and attend an informal discussion with Lithuanian economists and journalists.

Shiller visited Lithuania on 13-16 December 2013 at the invitation of Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Linkevičius. During his last visit, Shiller was awarded Honorary Professorship of the ISM University of Management and Economics.
