Lithuania's Foreign Ministry congratulates on Europe Day!

Today, on 9 May, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Raimundas Karoblis congratulated the participants of the celebration on Europe Day, inviting them to celebrate the European unity, solidarity and close cooperation.

“In the context of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, the idea of peace and unity in Europe is more relevant than ever. The self-sacrificing struggle of Ukrainians for freedom and European values reminds us of the primary and most important goal of the European Union — to secure peace on the European continent,” said Karoblis.

Karoblis stressed that the EU, above all, was a community of values — a union of freedom, democracy, the rule of law, and respect for human dignity.

Today, the Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė also welcomed the participants of the event. The flag of the European Union was solemnly raised on the occasion of Europe Day, and the Diplomatic Choir performed the anthems of Lithuania, Ukraine and Europe.

The Prime Minister’s discussion with youth representatives, entitled “Lithuania in the Defense of Freedom and Democracy: Why do we care about the problems outside our yard?”, also took place today. It marked the end of the Conference on the Future of Europe. The Speaker of the Seimas (Parliament) Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen opened the exhibition “Ukraine: War in Europe”, which will run in Lukiškės Square until 29 May.
