Lithuania's Foreign Vice-Minister Adomėnas met with a delegation of Israel's World Holocaust Remembrance Centre - Yad Vashem

On 7 November, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Mantas Adomėnas met with members of the delegation of Israel's World Holocaust Remembrance Centre - Yad Vashem - that was led by Dani Dayan, Chairman of the Yad Vashem Directorate. The meeting focused on issues concerning the perpetuation of the Holocaust remembrance, Holocaust education and the fight against anti-Semitism.

Lithuania's Foreign Vice-Minister noted that the Government of Lithuania had a zero-tolerance policy towards anti-Semitism, Holocaust denial or disrespect towards victims of the Holocaust.

The Foreign Vice-Minister informed the guests that the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport had just updated the basic education curriculum from grade one to grade ten. The national curriculum for history was updated to ensure compliance with the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance's Recommendations for Teaching and Learning about the Holocaust. An important task for all of us is the promotion of critical thinking among students, facilitating a more accurate understanding of the impact of anti-Semitism.

In 1953, the Israeli Knesset (Parliament) passed the Yad Vashem Law, founding the World Holocaust Remembrance Centre that  aims to collect, examine and publish testimony of the disaster. Its employees make every effort to document the Holocaust, to establish memorial projects and to commemorate the 'Righteous among the Nations'.
