Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister chairs the meeting of the Steering Committee of NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence
On 10-11 November, Lithuania’s Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrius Krivas chairs the meeting of the Steering Committee of NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence in Vilnius. The Steering Committee is the center’s highest governing body.
The meeting of the Steering Committee in Vilnius will evaluate the centre’s activities in 2014 related to operational energy efficiency and the protection of critical energy infrastructure, exercising and training. They will discuss the centre’s strategic directions in 2015, possibilities for further development and financial aspects.
“As regards the prospect of activity for the next few years, there will be an offer to strengthen the protection of critical energy infrastructure. The topic is particularly relevant to Lithuania, as the country implements strategic energy infrastructure projects, including also the liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Klaipėda,” said A.Krivas.
The flag of the United Kingdom will be hoisted during the meeting. The United Kingdom joined the NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence on 31 October this year and is participating in the meeting as its member-country for the first time. Earlier this month Georgia joined the centre. Canadian, Czech and the U.S. observers are also attending the meeting. The Committee will also consider offers by Canada and the Czech Republic to contribute to the centre’s activity.
Representatives of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Italy, France, Turkey, the United Kingdom and Georgia are currently working at the centre.
