Lithuania's Foreign Vice-Minister discusses security policy issues at the NB8 meeting in Copenhagen
On 20-21 March in Copenhagen, Lithuania's Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Julius Pranevičius discussed relevant security policy issues at the Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8) meeting.
Participants of the meeting stressed the need to increase military support for Ukraine and maintain pressure on Russia to end its aggression, which has been ongoing for three years.
Hybrid threats in the region and their deterrence were also discussed during the meeting. Progress was noted in imposing the EU sanctions against the Russian "shadow fleet" and in regional discussions among legal experts on international maritime law instruments to ensure the protection of critical undersea infrastructure.
The NB8 meeting of the State Secretaries of Foreign Ministries underscored the role of the United States in ensuring European security and, at the same time, stressed the need for European countries to dedicate significantly more resources to the defence of the continent.
NB8 is a cooperation initiative comprising Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, and Sweden. This year the chair of the NB8 is Denmark.
