Minister Linas Linkevičius invites Nadiya Savchenko to visit Lithuania
On 3 June, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius had a telephone conversation with a member of Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) Nadiya Savchenko, who was unlawfully detained for nearly two years in Russia.
Lithuania’s Foreign Minister congratulated Savchenko on her release and invited her to visit Lithuania.
“We are glad that you have regained your freedom. This is our common victory. The people of Lithuania have followed the story of your fight for freedom, so we would like to see you in Lithuania and hear the story from your lips,” said Lithuania’s Foreign Minister.
Savchenko confessed that she was very tired, but also very determined. According to her, there is a lot of work to do and she is ready to give her whole strength to the task.
Lithuania’s Foreign Minister also welcomed Savchenko’s commitment to her fight to have Russia release all unlawfully detained Ukrainians in the country. “Lithuania will continue to be an active ally of Ukraine, calling on Russia to release all the illegally detained Ukrainian citizens,” said Linkevičius.
Savchenko once again thanked Lithuania and its people for their support and encouragement, which she had always felt. She also promised to look for opportunities to visit Lithuania in the near future.
