Norway to support energy security projects

Lithuania’s priority projects in the field of energy security will also be financed under the Norwegian Financial Mechanism in the future. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius and Norway’s outgoing Ambassador to Lithuania Leif Arne Ulland discussed this and other key areas of the bilateral partnership on 14 July.

The Lithuanian Foreign Minister thanked the Ambassador for successful cooperation in implementing the LNG terminal project and for activities of the Norwegian-Lithuanian Business Forum. This Scandinavian country is the fifth largest investor in Lithuania.

According to L.Linkevičius, Lithuania especially appreciates the EEA Financial Mechanism and the Norwegian Financial Mechanism, which aim to reduce economic and social differences in Lithuania. In five years’ time, the amount of almost 300 million litas was allocated to Lithuania.

During the meeting, a lot of attention was given to the cooperation between Norway and Lithuania in the field of children’s rights.

The Lithuanian Foreign Minister expressed his gratitude for the Ambassador L.Arne Ulland’s efforts to strengthen the bilateral relations.
