"Neither Lithuania's NATO membership nor strong transatlantic ties are a given. It is the result of very consistent work and efforts of Lithuanian friends. I am grateful to everyone who reminds me why the world needs a strong transatlantic relationship, and I am especially grateful to Anne Applebaum, Heather Conley and Karen Donfried for their constant support for Lithuania's foreign policy goals," said the head of Lithuania's diplomacy while presenting the awards.

Anne Applebaum is a well-known writer, security policy expert and Pulitzer Prize winner. After Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, she argues in her articles in The Atlantic, The Washington Post, and other publications why the United States and the entire democratic world must support Ukraine, stop Russia and make it answer for its actions.

She contributed to the expansion of NATO and Lithuania's membership in the Alliance. She currently serves as the President of the German Marshall Fund of the United States in Washington, D.C.,  and contributed to organising the Vilnius NATO summit.

The Star of Lithuania's Diplomacy is the Foreign Ministry's award, given to individuals for their efforts to promote Lithuania abroad and foster transnational relations.
