The 63rd General Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) ended on 22 July 2022. The event, which attracted more than 900 participants, took place on 14-22 July 2022 in Geneva.

During the General Assembly, remarkable decisions were made on issues on the legislative agenda that have been unresolved for many years - the Design Law Treaty and the Treaty on the Protection of Intellectual Property and Genetic Resources and Related Traditional Knowledge. The WIPO member states agreed that diplomatic conferences for the adoption of these multilateral agreements would be convened no later than in 2024.

One of the most important decisions adopted by a large majority of WIPO member states during this assembly is the decision of the General Assembly to provide WIPO support to the war devastated innovation and creativity sector of Ukraine and to ensure the rights of the country's intellectual property owners. This proposal was submitted by 53 member states, including Lithuania.

The General Assembly is the highest governing body of WIPO. During it, the most important management, legislative, planning and budget issues of this organization are resolved.

At the 63rd General Assembly of WIPO, Lithuania was represented by a delegation consisting of representatives of the State Patent Bureau, the Ministry of Culture, as well as the Permanent Mission of Lithuania to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva.

WIPO is a United Nations specialized agency that formulates a global policy of protection of intellectual property and administers international treaties in the field of intellectual property. This organization unites 193 member states. Lithuania became a member of WIPO in 1992.
