The conflicts in Ukraine and Georgia discussed at the meeting with the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Linas Linkevičius, had a meeting with Fatou Bensouda, Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, during the Munich Security Conference.

Minister Linkevičius expressed his support to the Court’s fight against international crime and efforts to strengthen international justice.

The conflicts in Ukraine and Georgia were discussed at the meeting where Mr Minister gave his assessment of the situation concerning the Russian aggression in South Ossetia, Crimea, and Eastern Ukraine. They agreed to continue the discussion on an expert level.

The International Criminal Court started functioning in 1998. It now has 124 states as its members. It is a judicial institution established by the Rome Statute that exercises jurisdiction with respect to individuals for the most serious crimes such as genocide, aggression, etc.
