THE LITHUANIA-UK COOPERATION PERSPECTIVES DISSCUSSED IN THE BILATERAL CONSULTATIONS

On 28 February Undersecretary of Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Žygimantas Pavilionis took part in bilateral consultations with the officials of the United Kingdom’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London.

Mutual satisfaction with currently intensified bilateral relations, Lithuanian-UK cooperation in such areas of foreign policy as the European Neighbourhood Policy, Energy Policy, climate change, international peacekeeping operations and missions, was expressed during the meeting with the Political Director of the British Foreign Office John Sawers.

J. Sawers thanked Lithuania for its activity and input into the international operations in Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as the constructive role while forming the European Neighbourhood Policy.

Undersecretary of the Ministry Ž.Pavilionis presented Lithuanian position and initiatives in the area of the EU Eastern Neighbourhood Policy regarding its relations with Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia etc.

Mr Pavilionis discussed with the British diplomats the results and experience of joint bilateral projects in Moldova and the future prospects of cooperation with Georgia.

J. Sawers presented the UK’s position concerning various issues of security policy and the Middle East. Lithuania and the UK are carrying on the bilateral consultations on their common actions in Afghanistan and Iraq.
