The third Honorary Consulate of Lithuania opened in Japan

Consular letters patent was handed to Honorary Consul of Lithuania in Fukuyama (Hiroshima Prefecture) Shigehiro Komaru, President of Fukuyama Transporting Co., at the Lithuanian Embassy in Tokyo on 30 January 2017.

“We have reasons for delight, in 25 years of diplomatic relations, Japan has become Lithuania’s main regional partner in the fields of export of Lithuanian goods, science and research, incoming tourism, while cultural and sport ties and youth exchanges have been actively developed,” Lithuanian Ambassador to Japan, Egidijus Meilūnas noted at the ceremony.

“We are certain that the Honorary Consul of Lithuania in Fukuyama will help develop mutually beneficial ties with the city of Fukuyama and Hiroshima Prefecture which have a huge business, science and culture potential,” Mr Ambassador said.

The new Honorary Consul of Lithuania noted that he would seek to promote economic cooperation and cultural exchanges, tourism, business ties, and educational projects.

“I feel my huge responsibility and duty to actively contribute to good bilateral relations between Japan and Lithuania,” Mr Komaru said at the solemn ceremony of granting him the authority of Honorary Consul of Lithuania.

Shigehiro Komaru is the President of Fukuyama Transporting Co., the corporation, founded in 1948, that engages in transportation and logistics in the whole of Asia, has over 40 affiliated companies that together employ about 24 thousand workers, have about 400 logistics centres and 16 thousand vehicles.

The Honorary Consul in Fukuyama is the third honorary consul of Lithuania in Japan; the other two operate in Sapporo and Osaka.
